Winter Nail Trends ’17
From marble manicures to Kim Kardashian’s chain nails, the nail game is forever changing. Last year, it was all about the chrome and this is still going strong. Yet, with recent trends at London Fashion week featuring a range of nude hues, pearl appearances and the ‘barely there’ look, 2017 is no longer solely about the statement nails. Subtle and toned down has made its stance and it’s perfect for all occasions. It’s guaranteed to go with all your outfits!
CND Shellac has stepped up their game and recently brought out their ‘Glacial Illusion’ collection, combining both nudes and blue shades with metallic and pearl finishes. They’ve even released a range of top coats, including one with a pearl shine. After all, this is a great way to ensure your manicure stays on trend as it gives that shimmer effect to any colour you choose. CND Shellac really has combined all the Winter trends into one! Similarly, OPI has jumped on the nude and pearl craze and launched their new ‘Iceland’ collection.

We spoke to Samantha Sweet, Co-Founder of Sweet Squared, who commented…
“This A/W is all about icy cool shades and muted pastels – YES, pastels for winter! Romance goes off-piste with CND™’s gorgeous ‘Glacial Illusion collection’, which includes the mid-grey shade everyone has been waiting for, ‘Mystic Slate’. We’re seeing these magical, frosted shades take the UK by storm across salons and social media this year, so opt for one (or two, or three!) of the brand-new CND™ SHELLAC™ colours for an on-trend yet seasonal manicure. THE style queen herself, Victoria Beckham is a huge fan of ‘Cashmere Wrap’, a creamy luxurious nude shade and the perfect take on A/W ’17 nails!”.

For those wanting to add a little extra sparkle, we are loving the foil effect and shattered glass look. This can be achieved by simply adding foil pigment or pre-cut glass film over the colour. It creates a simple but glamorous look. Just look at these nails done by our professionals ‘Nails by Julia’ and ‘Nails by Keziah’ and how great they look!

We asked Keziah how she created these manicures and she told us…
“For the pearly nail effect I applied two coats of Artistic colour gel ‘in bloom’. Followed by, etching into the tacky layer Aurora pigment by All that Jazz from Nail Harmony. Next, using a dotting tool, I applied two dots at the cuticle area in Gelish ‘make you blink pink’ and finished with a top coat. As for the shattered glass effect, I applied two different coats of sheer pinky-nude toned gels. Then, onto the tacky layer I pressed in the pre-cut glass film. I then sealed and smoothed it all in with Gelish structure gel and finished with top coat.”
“This A/W season sees a defined shift from safe cremes palettes to bold shimmer finishes in deep hues of purple, dark blues and brick reds. Nail colour this season has been inspired by the rich textures of velvets, suedes and heavy silks seen on the A/W17 catwalks. Nudes have been popular now for what seems like years! …This season we see the nude trend take on a new form. The new nude shades shimmer and glisten in metallic finishes with hints of gold and coral – super wearable for all occasions. This Christmas it’s time to retire the chunky glitters. Instead, try an ice queen shimmering blue, keep the look simple and your nails long and oval.”
